Welcome to the city of Los Angeles, where dreams are made! Los Angeles started out as a small farming town in an area inhabited by friendly Native American Indians. Under the orders of King Carlos III of Spain, a "pueblo" was founded in 1781 as ’El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de Los Angeles de Porciuncula’ or the Town of Our Lady Queen of the Angels of Porciuncula. Since then it’s been City of Angels, Tinsel Town, Lala Land or simply - LA.

Whatever sort of vacation or entertainment you are looking for, you will find it in Los Angeles - Hollywood glamour, romantic beaches, theme parks, high art, pop culture, tacky souvenirs, rock and roll, Rodeo Drive designer stores, Pacific sunsets, and gourmet food. One thing about Angelenos, they want to be constantly entertained!

LOS ANGELES FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT DESTINATIONS

Hollywood
Historical home of the stars and movie premieres in the golden age of film and television that includes the famed Sunset Boulevard. Hollywood Boulevard isn’t paved with gold; in fact, it’s a bit seedy, with a multitude of tacky souvenir shops that sell celebrity photos, maps with the stars homes, sweatshirts and t-shirts. Hollywood is where the movie business got started and where stars planted their hands into wet cement. The Walk of Fame adds new names every month or so and Mann’s Chinese Theater is still one of the places chosen for Hollywood movie releases. The new showplace - the Kodak Theater is where the annual Academy Awards are held, where the golden Oscars are presented to celebrities in a lavish production each year. The Kodak Theater is situated at new Hollywood and Highland Entertainment Complex.

Beverly Hills
This is a northern outpost of posh with palm-lined streets and fancy mansions. The best way to see the neighborhood is to take a bus tour. Guides will point out what celebrity lives where. Visit Rodeo Drive for world famous designer shops.

Beaches
Santa Monica Beach with its boardwalk and pier, is the best beach to visit. Right next to the Third Street Promenade, where you can browse, dine, and shop. Further north on Pacific Coast Highway, exclusive Malibu is the preserve of the rich who build their fancy homes right on the beach. Neighboring Venice is known for offbeat artistic characters, roller bladders, sidewalk artists and shopping bargains

Griffith Park
Just north of Los Angeles, Griffith Park is a huge city park that is home to the famed Griffith Observatory. You also can find the Los Angeles Zoo, horseback riding and the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

Universal Studios
This is a delight; a fun filled day for both adults and children. With original soundstages where you will see familiar Universal movies and favorite old television shows sets, TV shows are still staged here. Visitors can see how Moses parted the ocean, ride in a boat with a replica of the mechanical Jaws, experience a realistic San Francisco earthquake, be greeted by King Kong, participate in filming of a show, and ride through jungles and scary tunnels.

Disneyland Park & Disneyland California Adventure
The first of the major amusement parks, Disneyland is not actually in Los Angeles but to the south a few miles in Anaheim. It is still a big attraction with rides, parades and of course, Mickey Mouse. You can see one or inquire about the Park Hopper ticket to see both Disneyland parks along with Knott"s Theme Park, Sea World Adventure Park, and the world famous San Diego Zoo.

Angeles National Forest
For nature lovers, you want to keep heading north into the mountains. Angeles National Forest is just a few miles out of town and a wonderful spot for hiking and biking.

Just northwest of the city along 405, there are interactive computer art guides, family tours and activities.

Be sure to visit one of LA’s beautifully preserved old theaters on Hollywood Boulevard. Famed Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is right next door to the Kodak Theater, the new home of the Oscars. The Disney-owned El Capitan with its art deco 1920s interior or Sid Grauman’s other theatre, The Egyptian, has both recently been restored to its former glory.

Weekends at Venice Beach are what Lala Land is all about. Body builders, roller-bladders and the most colorful bunch of eccentrics ever gather in one place to make Ocean Front Walk the ideal spot to hang out. Don’t miss a beautiful Los Angeles sunset while out for a day at the beach.

Rodeo Drive offers top of the line window-shopping, including Georgio Armani, Chanel, Fred Segals, Gianni Versace, and Tiffany & Co. You may even see a limo will pull up and spot a celebrity. Sunset Plaza is also a place to see and be seen. The of the few places in Los Angeles where you don’t have to worry about parking, there are many exclusive boutiques and sidewalk dining that provides the perfect setting for people watching. A favorite hang both for Beverly Hills and Hollywood locals, more than several celebrities have been spotted in this area grabbing a cup of joe to go or conversing with friends at a curb side table. Get your shades out and walk along Melrose Boulevard. Hip and trendy, this is where the LA cool crowd browse, shop and dine. Store after store, you will see a street filled with clothing stores, bakeries, coffee shops, restaurants, tattoo artists and vintage clothing stores. You will be tempted by a numerous variety of clothes, sunglasses, and jewelry.

El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument is the oldest section of Los Angeles. Twenty-seven historic buildings are clustered around an old plaza, each with an exciting story to tell about the people of different ethnic groups who settled here; as does the colorful Mexican marketplace on Olvera Street.
